OCALA MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway System spans over 200 miles of trails at all skill levels — so there’s sure to be a trail for you there! There are restrooms, parking, and drinkable water at all of the trailheads, so be sure to take advantage of that if you’re doing a cross-Florida tour.

You can try out different trails at the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. There are over 80 miles of mountain bike trails and 16 miles of paved road bike trails.

Go to the trailhead at Santos to start. Santos is well known for some of the best mountain biking in the Southeast. People come here from all over the world!  This is a great place to ride a mountain bike, and you can choose the degree of difficulty of the trail you want to ride. Yellow trails are for new riders, blue trails are for more experienced riders, and red trails are only for experts. At the Santos trailhead, we have a pump track and skills park where you can try out what the trails will be like.

All along the trail system, there are wooden features that get progressively harder until you reach the Vortex, which has the most challenging features. When biking at the Vortex, it’s important to remember that if you’re not a skilled rider, it could be dangerous.

The Vortex is a place for expert bikers. You must have the right skills and abilities to ride there – know your level. You might see some expert local riders catching major air or showing off their skills—the kind of action you see at the X Games.

The Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) is the main bike club building and maintaining the trails and technical features.   They also host the annual Santos Fat Tire Festival (FTF) at the trailhead the second weekend in March. Sign up for the festival as soon as possible because it will sell out fast. Visit the Bike Vendor Village at the main trailhead during the day and do the Epic-supported ride of up to 50 miles on the Saturday of the FTF.

16 Miles of Paved Trails

If you’d rather ride on a paved path, 16 miles of paved trails are great for serious cyclists and people who just want to take a leisurely ride with family or friends through the beautiful Florida scenery. From Santos Trailhead to State Road 200, the trail will take you through different Florida ecosystems where you can see wildlife. The trail goes over I-75 on the famous Land Bridge, which gives wildlife, cyclists, hikers, and horseback riders a safe way to get across.

Visit the Cross Florida Greenway for an opportunity to not only ride your bike but also reconnect with nature. Several bike shops nearby can rent you bikes or give you tips on how to get the most out of our biking trails.

At the trailheads all over the park, there are picnic tables and pavilions where you can eat lunch or take a break. Take a break and fall in love with the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway’s beautiful protected lands and trails.

Section 316.20655 of the Florida Statutes says that bikes, including electric bikes, can be used on specific trails in the park system.
