LAKELAND MOUNTAIN BIKING
Loyce Harpe Park Mountain Bike Trails (formerly Carter Road) were designed to satisfy every type of rider. Similar to other well-known Florida mountain bike trails like Alafia State River Park and Balm Boyette, this park was built on a former phosphate mine. So you can expect some awesome terrain built to excite any rider. You can explore entry-level trails or test your skills in the advanced and expert sections. The advanced trails have plenty of fingers that will test your grit and bypasses throughout the trails if that’s not your thing. Not to mention, there’s a pump track at the trailhead and wood features throughout the trail system!
You’ll ride through lush Florida forest and next to beautiful water features leftover from the old mines. Currently, there are about 13 miles of single-track mountain biking trails.
On Wednesdays, all of the single tracks go in reverse order, known affectionately as “Wacky Wednesday”. Take note that this does NOT apply to their single double-black diamond trail called “Your Mom”. No, we’re not making a slight at you… that’s really what it’s called!
Lastly, make sure to keep an eye out for the infamous 14-foot gator called “Big Momma”…
